FDOT’s Regional Transportation Management Centers (RTMCs) are the operational hubs for managing traffic and disseminating information to Florida’s traveling public across the state’s roadways. FDOT is a leader in the deployment of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) throughout the state, which includes creating RTMCs in major metropolitan areas. RTMCs are essential to enhancing the efficiency of Florida’s transportation network. These hubs operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week to provide traffic management, incident management, and traveler information services.

In monitoring traffic, RTMCs use cameras, sensors, and data analytics to track traffic flow and detect incidents. To manage incidents, the centers coordinate with agencies like the Florida Highway Patrol to dispatch Road Rangers and emergency services. RTMCs disseminate updates to the public through digital messaging signs, apps, and websites.

RTMCs are in Ft. Myers (District 1), Jacksonville (District 2), Chipley (District 3), Ft. Lauderdale and Palm Beach (District 4), Sanford (District 5), Miami (District 6), and Tampa (District 7). Additionally, Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise operates two RTMCs in the state: Pompano Beach Turnpike Operations Center and Turkey Lake (Orlando) Headquarters complex.

FDOT’s Regional Traffic Management Centers (RTMCs) serve as the operational hub for Florida’s intelligent transportation systems, integrating tools such as dynamic message signs, sensors, traffic management software, and Road Ranger services to keep traffic moving safely and efficiently.
